Pilgrimage to Pulpit Rock

Ever since we knew we were coming to Norway this was very near the top of the 'must see' list. Preikestolen, as it is known in the native tongue, is a granite rock with a sheer drop of 604 metres down to Lysefjord. All we needed was decent weather. Having made frequent checks of the forecast on the days before, we finally made the decision that we would drive the 160 miles across country, then catch a ferry and hope the weather was kind. Disembarking the ferry we looked up the fjord to see heavy cloud covering all the mountain tops. Undeterred we drove up to the car park to give it a recce and then retreated from the cloud and rain to a nearby town on the fjord where we could keep a watchful eye on the tops. Things didn't improve a great deal so we stayed at basecamp until 6am Thursday and try again.

This morning's view from basecamp, it's a waiting game.
