Don't Mention The War, Oh Go On Then
This afternoon we were approached by a fellow 'off piste' campervanner, who just happened to be a friendly German. We chatted about various travel experiences until I thought he said "Gas House". Fortunately I quickly realised he actually said Gast Haus, but from then on the conversation deteriorated to the war. No fault of mine I hasten to add, he just asked where we were heading so I said "Vemork", he looked puzzled. I said "Where the Germans had their heavy water plant to build an atomic bomb in the war and the Norwegian and British blew it up, a fascinating story of heroism". Well the writing was on the wall from then on. After a couple of minutes of verbal jousting he departed, never to return. I think we left on reasonably friendly terms.
